Host FAQs

Girls Night In

Girls Night In is an easy and flexible way of supporting a great cause that can fit your busy schedule. What kind of event you have is all up to you, including the size, location, timing and who to invite.

We’ve put together some answers to common questions from Girls Night In hosts to help explain how easy and fun it can be to host your own event.

What kind of event should I have?
The great thing about Girls Night In is that you can do whatever you like. You can turn a regular get-together like a book club meeting or dinner night into a Girls Night In event or choose to make it something special. If you are looking for a little inspiration or want to give your Girls Night In a special theme, see some of our suggested themes and fundraising ideas here.

I’m really busy - is Girls Night In going to take a lot of time?
Hosting a Girls Night In can take as little time as you want. It can be as simple as turning a regular get-together with the girls into a Girls Night In. It’s a great excuse to get together with the girls.

When should I host my Girls Night In event?
Girls Night In takes place all year long so you can pick a date that best suits you and your girlfriends. Please don’t forget to get your invitations out as soon as possible so your guests can save-the-date and ensure the best turnout at your event.

Do I have to have an evening event?
Not at all. As the name suggests, we think the program will most likely lend itself to evening events (which are usually more convenient) but there are no limitations on when the event needs to be held.

Who should I invite?
You could invite your friends, family members, neighbours and/or colleagues, depending on how big or small you want your Girls Night In to be.

Be sure to let your guests know that you are raising funds for women’s cancer research* so they come ready to donate and have a great time! You can use the e-vites available when you register or create your own. It’s all up to you.

Where should I hold my Girls Night In?
You can hold your Girls Night In wherever you’d like. Most people host their event in their homes, however you may choose another location that fits the size of your gathering, that’s convenient for your guests or where you already like to get together.

How do I raise money at my event?
The easiest way to raise funds is to ask your guests to donate what they would usually spend on a night out or you can charge an entry fee.

You can also use the “Guilt-Free Night-In Card” available when you register your event to raise additional funds from your nearest and dearest. Want a little extra inspiration? Be sure to check out some creative fundraising ideas here.

How do I ask my guests for a donation?
You can ask your guests to donate a comfortable amount based on what they might spend for a night out, on things like movie or theatre tickets, transportation or dinner.

Some hosts tie the donation to an entry fee to a Girls Night In theme such as dinner and a movie, makeover madness or fashion show.

Please make sure your guests know that their donation will go to support women’s cancer research.*

How many people do I need to invite? Is there an amount I have to raise?
You can decide how large or small your Girls Night In is. If your Girls Night In is very small you can increase the amount you raise with other fundraising ideas or have more than one Girls Night In during the year.

How do I collect donations?
In your Host Kit you will find Donation Forms to give to each of your guests. You can download this kit and Donation Forms or request a hard copy when you register. The forms are easy to complete but please ask your guests to complete all details so they will be eligible for a tax receipt. If your guests prefer to donate by cheque, please make sure it’s payable to “Canadian Cancer Society”.

At the end of the night, collect all the Donation Forms and donations from your guests. (You may want to provide your Guests with donation envelopes.) If you have friends or family who couldn’t attend your event, provide them with a Donation Form in case they still want to contribute.

How do I cancel my event after having invited guests using the Host Centre?
If you need to cancel your event, please contact 1 877 GNI-0777 or e-mail girlsnightin@ontario.cancer.ca and our staff will be happy to assist you with informing your guests about the cancellation.
